I grew up on the Muppets. I had an autographed picture of Jim Henson that came from the Lions Club radio auction (if you grew up in Maysville, you’ll understand). So when I saw that they were releasing a new Muppet movie, I was more than a little excited.
After seeing the first trailer, I dove into my DVD collection and dug out The Muppet Show Season One. It promptly found its way into Q’s, my 10 year-old stepdaughter, DVD player. The first act on the first episode of the first season was Mahna Mahna, and she was hooked. She has since devoured every bit of Muppetness she can find in the house and on YouTube.
Tonight, we went and saw the new Muppet movie together. It was just the two of us (the Pretty Little Wife was pushing Baby A around the mall doing some Xmas shopping…also, she’s not a Muppet fan). Q loved the movie. I loved the movie. There was something magical about sharing that beloved piece of my childhood with my own child. I’m not afraid to admit that my eyes got a little misty when they sang Rainbow Connection.
If, like me, you have a special place in your heart for Henson’s creations, do yourself a favor and take your favorite kid to see the Muppet movie.
And it’s ok if you get a little misty-eyed when Kermit starts strumming his banjo.
